The Trituration Experience
In February 2015, I conducted a trituration of Tetrao urogallus (Capercaillie) as my final thesis at the Transformational School of Homeopathy in Helsinki. The trituration process was based on a feather collected from a male Capercaillie, found in a remote forest in Pomarkku, Satakunta. This feather had the powerful energy of Finland’s largest forest bird, gathered during its mating season, which is considered the most powerful time in the bird’s life cycle.
The trituration involved cutting material from different parts of the feather and mixing it with lactose powder, following Alice Timmermann’s trituration guidelines. This process took place from potency C1 to C5, with 12 female participants present.
Summary of the Trituration
In the trituration of Tetrao urogallus, many symptoms typical of homeopathic bird remedies surfaced. These included:
A strong longing for freedom contrasted with a sense of intense restriction
Themes of travel, lightness, upward-flowing energy, and sight/seeing
Heightened sensitivity of the senses, excessive energy, communication, and movement
A craving for food, particularly carbohydrate-rich foods
Physical symptoms of stiffness, numbness, and pain in the head, chest, back, and limbs
Themes of the Capercaillie
Masculinity
There was a strong expression of rough and bold masculinity. Participants felt a desire to "drive fast like a man," make decisions without caring about others’ opinions, and stand firm in their views. Irritability and a tendency towards quarrelsomeness emerged. There was also a strong need to control everything and take the lead. A sense of isolation was felt, with thoughts such as, “I couldn’t care less about anyone else.” Participants even reported intense, smelly, damp underarm sweat.
Business
Various business ideas were generated, with a focus on making lots of money and determining who to partner with. Thinking was elevated, creative, and empowered, leading participants to feel self-confident in work and in control of their responsibilities.
Travel
Thoughts of leaving for a distant country to start a new life emerged. There were recurring thoughts of flying and airplanes.
Food
A strong craving for carbohydrate-rich foods like pizza, whipped cream, vanilla custard, sweet buns (laskiaispulla), and pastries was noted. A massive hunger was felt, especially for pizza. Alcohol cravings, particularly beer, wine, and sparkling wine, were also observed.
Men
During the trituration, thoughts or images of famous men such as Hjallis Harkimo, Freddie Mercury, Jesus, and Karlsson-on-the-Roof (Katto Kassinen) surfaced. Interestingly, some participants’ male partners began unexpectedly cooking or cleaning without being asked.
“Lovely Karlsson-on-the-Roof or Jesus. Are they coming through the library’s skylight? Welcome, J.”
Flying
There was a strong, light, and airy upward flow of energy. Thoughts felt "flying" in nature, and the overall feeling was carefree and spacious. The weather was windy, and planes landing at the airport from unusual directions caught everyone's attention.
Pregnancy
Three participants believed they were pregnant and experienced early pregnancy symptoms, such as heightened sensitivity to smells, nausea, breast tenderness, bloating, and delayed menstruation.
Humor
An abundance of laughter, at times even hysterical, emerged. Participants experienced silly imagery and uncontrollable laughter.
Time
Participants experienced a shift in time perception, with time feeling either too fast or too slow. A deep sense of calm, serenity, and connection was felt during this period.
Senses
There was hypersensitivity to smells, sharp hearing, and overwhelming noise. Some participants found themselves irritated by the opinions and words of others. Photophobia (sensitivity to light) was also reported. In contrast, some experienced a sense of numbness or a lack of sensory awareness, with difficulty understanding speech, hearing, or responding.
Colors
Golden yellow (solar plexus), red, and black were prevalent in the experience.
Dreams
Dreams often involved male friends and were set in high places such as skiing slopes, towers, or while flying. Sexual thoughts and interactions with partners or friends were also noted.
Musical Representation
Musically, the remedy was best represented by the song "Naurava kulkuri" (“The Laughing Wanderer”) by Vesa-Matti Loiri.
Remedy Summary
In summary, the trituration of Tetrao urogallus revealed typical symptoms seen in homeopathic bird remedies. However, to gain a deeper understanding of the remedy and its qualities, it would be advisable to continue with a full proving.
